Maritime Students Respond to Ontario Post-Secondary Announcement

Halifax, NS – Yesterday, the Ontario Government announced sweeping changes to tuition, financial aid, and mandatory fees. These include cuts to Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) grants, a reduction in domestic tuition by 10%, and the elimination of “non essential non tuition fees”.

Students Respond to Increased Funding for Only Two Nova Scotia Universities

Halifax, NS – Today, the Government of Nova Scotia announced increased funding for two of the province’s ten public universities. The recipients are St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Kings College, who will be given operating grant increases of $3.95 million and $2.2 million respectively.

E-Mental Health Tools Launch on Campuses Across Nova Scotia

Halifax, NS – Post-secondary students across Nova Scotia now have access to a suite of innovative e-mental health programs. The programs are part of a post-secondary mental health strategy created by Dr. Elizabeth Cawley of the Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU) and funded by the Government of Nova Scotia. The programs are available to students at every University and NSCC campus in Nova Scotia.

Halifax, NS – Today, student leaders from across the province arrived in Halifax to kick off the annual Student Advocacy Week. The week began with the release of the report “Innovating Accessibility and Affordability: Improving Nova Scotia’s Post-Secondary System”, which presents well-researched and realistic student recommendations to enhance post-secondary education in the province. Students will be meeting with MLA’s and sector decision makers throughout the week to present the report and encourage Government to take action.
